Many thanks to Roman for all his hard work organising the competition, and great to see so many people taking part - great tunes too!

The results, credited sids, credited prgs, d64 with ranked and credited prgs and user comments added. The PRG files are untested. Let's hope everything will work ok coz I'm not willing to return to this unrewarding and intellectually exhausting ( ;-) ) activity. It's always great to have compos running. Enjoying tunes and reactions as they come. But it is hell of a repulsive work to finalize them. Last 2 months I had to jump on the pedal and work harder coz my bank balance went to zero (which is actually a bit eumphemistically said but I'll spare you of the details). I wouldn't bother with it if I was alone but I have family to care about. So that's why I somehow neglected all this ungrateful organizing job. I promised to do a cover compo on 1st of january, so I did it, but it was kinda weird I tell yea. Anyway I'm really thankful for all the great tunes. I hope that series of C64CC will become at least as succesful as SC. Currently I can't promise that I will make CC#2 but I'm really willing to, because I think the scene potential wasn't used to full extent yet. For example, many of the composers chose to cover computer tunes which I actually find harder to do, but in the end it is less enriching than taking something from the "radio". Anyway, have a nice rest of the year ;-). See ya around the next event. The closest one is Forever 9 in Trencin / Slovakia / 14.-16.march 2008

Dane: I really agree with you and even if this so called "cover compo" is hard to really give votes on, all the music has been pretty good. I mean if you listen to the original songs then you can get a better idea around how the composer made the cover. There are so many aspects in how you make a cover/remkix/remake or what-so-ever you remake. It all depends on how, where or when you row the boat. Sounds, notes, tech., arrangement, mixing, place and spartial, do all make the whole in a song. So when you listen to a song you've got many perspectives to judge from and sometimes the first impression isn't really the one giving the full resonance in the bells, if you all carry on the frequencies I'm trying to send out :)

I'm with Jammer on this one. Either it sounds good or it doesn't. If it was just about making 100% similar copies I'd say everyone not covering gamemusic or chiptunes are dead in the water. I prefer to think of it as composers making c64-interpretations. And as such, well, either you like it or you don't. Still, I'd prefer if people took the time to actually check out some of the originals! :)

Submitted by Orcan on 6 February 2008
Nevertheless, this is a cover compo. And cover compo should be about covering original music. I'd like to value this matter.

User Comment
Submitted by Jammer on 6 February 2008
well, i behaved like during normal competition and had no problems with voting. simply, i like this and don't like that ;)

User Comment
Submitted by Orcan on 6 February 2008
Hein: You are absolutely right. Very very hard voting. I voted yesterday with problems. Mainly because I don't know many originals. I wanted to vote level of cover arrangement. What a pitty.

User Comment
Submitted by Hein on 5 February 2008
hum, quite difficult to vote, since there's not much to vote for composition, only the way it's arranged and the sounds. The mp3 recordings do help with that though. \o/

Will mp3s from real hw be added? I'm stuck out in the woods without access to a real C64 for 6 months, and .sids just sound lame :/

+5 new tunes

User Comment
Submitted by CreaMD on 23 January 2008
+3 tunes in the compo. ;-)

User Comment
Submitted by Stainless Steel on 18 January 2008
Jammer :

not necessarily.
One could very well choose to make a "lose" cover of a tune and put his own twist on it, thus differentiating substantially in length.

User Comment
Submitted by Jammer on 18 January 2008
luca: it's pointless as it's COVER competition :P it's quite obvious that remix/cover would be more or less as long as the original one ;)

User Comment
Submitted by Merman on 15 January 2008
Oops, think I may have voted twice by accident...

User Comment
Submitted by Stainless Steel on 15 January 2008
I'm still waiting for that Munich 98 FM Tune by you-know-who.

CreaMD: what about the very polite habit of declaring a duration for any entry? ;) It would be useful again...

What Randall said.

User Comment

hrmpfz deleted some spam "pill voters" ;-)) going to put compo ontop on weekend + article. have a nice weekend ppl.

User Comment
Submitted by CreaMD on 9 January 2008
Luca: I think it is great when someone loves the C64 tune and later finds out that it is a cover. E.g. Hertie MTV's cover of Love Song (by Marc'Oh or how was that dood named) was fabulous ;-)) Much better than too subtle and polished out original ;-)) But apart from my informal views on this, yes you are right. I'm not against complete info about the tune but it is on the authors of the covers to provide it.

User Comment
Submitted by Hate Bush on 9 January 2008
i would prefer if people found fairly unknown tunes to cover them for this event. surprise me. surprise us all. won't you?

User Comment
Submitted by Luca on 9 January 2008
Orcan: to reach a precise 100% conversion, or to compose a pretty nice remix upsetting the original theme in something else, you still need to know the root tune, whichever it is. That would be fundamental, for a wild-free cover compo, imho.

User Comment
Submitted by Orcan on 9 January 2008
Luca: Yes, you are absolutely right. I agree. Everything is matter of compo rules. BTW: will you accept some extra effect and improvisations in solo forexample in Englishman in New York.sid? Do you think it is a risk of author to put them there? What will you value? Mood or precision of music? Of course if rules stay the same.

User Comment
Submitted by Luca on 9 January 2008
Orcan: err... :O Mmmm yeah probably you're right, I didn't understand you, though I surely understood your point of view. Let's picture the unlucky case I would cover a somewhat local tune which you don't know (a situation which is not the best as you pointed out, but nonetheless it's allowed!). I guess, even before I would whine about compo rules, a cover music's judgement should mainly value how much.sid version and original tune get close. Am I wrong again? :)

User Comment
Submitted by Orcan on 8 January 2008
Luca: You didn't understand me. I just wanted to say that it is better for composer choose known music than a local one. I mean better for result forexample ;-)

User Comment
Submitted by Luca on 8 January 2008
Orcan: eh, that's the question, your opinion or rule for everybody? :)

User Comment
Submitted by Orcan on 8 January 2008
Luca: You are definitely right. But in my opinion is that good is to make music which is very well known worldwide. Then no need connect anything (despite it why not).

User Comment
Submitted by Luca on 8 January 2008
Roman I think you should provide a compo dedicated STIL in order to connect all the entries to the right original tune, before we lock the horns of our natural unknowing against Polish tv adverts music, Korean cartoon openings, alien vibes and what the heck more...
A cover compo needs references which have to be quickly compared to their sid counterparts.

Sorry I'm busy earning money (coz my financial situation is currently completely out of control) so didn't find those 2 minutes to make an article at c64.sk yet. I'll do it soonish. I somehow appreciate now that there isn't a feed of event reactions in the main page coz some of the more "triggerhappy" mods would probably go berserk in this discussion. (even when it is ontopic! ;-))

"Videogame idiot" - is a new term for composers of chip music accidentally invented by Timbaland. (although some people say that he meant.. it's from videogame, idiot!)

anyway.. that joke is probably too stupid but just to explain: Acidjazzed Evening, Timbaland Rip Off, Ringtones, Nelly Furtado, Do It, Glenn Rune Gallefoss and Jane 'Tempest' Sunni ! Ok? ;-)

Ian: I'm not angry, just a miserable comedian it seems ;-)

User Comment
Submitted by iAN CooG on 1 January 2008
Or maybe covers (any) from/for "videogame idiots"...
CreaMD must be angry for the latest reactions during 2007 c64.sk compo :/
anyway on c64.sk: "The tune should be a cover or interpretation (remix) of your favourite music"

User Comment
Submitted by Stainless Steel on 1 January 2008
Just a question, it says "Videogames" cover compo.

Does that mean the tune must be a cover of a
videogame tune or can i submit a tune of whatever
i like to do a cover of ?
