If there is a highscore function, even it is only one highest score, why not save it for next time playing?
In this case there are at least 6 scores, separated for each difficulty level and 1 or 2 player mode.

i'm really confused when "crack" and "ethic" subjects are discussed together. it's like discussing the ethical way to rape someone to me. :)

Well. These days are not 20+ years ago. Compare the amount of games being produced today with the amount made back then. The scene is smaller, and entangled in incestous relations. Do we live in decadent times? Perhaps, but we still live. Crackers did not kill companies back then, but today we do need to give the distributors some time to sell their games to the "masses". Sceners know where to get the cracks anyhow.

it is always good to have different opinions, with people just having complains all the time this machine would have been dead a long time ago and none would care for stuff like csdb, good that there are still lame morons left.

ehm, and yes it was retard back then, too. so who cares if some people still enjoy it?

Danzig, Groepaz and Peacemaker close to the same opinion, hell frozen ;) And to not disappoint them => jackass goes first *ROFL*

Seriously, the "cracking scene" these days is a joke anyway. It was about to become a joke even back then when i was still active. Only Nostalgia and groups like that, who release good games in a high quality form gain some respect. my 2 cents ;)

I guess in these days you have to "follow" what the devs say, otherwise you wont get the originals before release date ;)Well, a lot changed it seems. Didi did it right. =)

funny enough, any release with an entry in csdb *must* be publicly downloadable :)

and i agree with danzig. you guys dont make sense.

Danzig: no bashing at all. And I am not discussing the skill of switching on a feature merely disabled in a game. The skill is not in question, more the method, which is why some guys think this stinks. In this day and age a lot of active guys try to protect the commercial scene in some way. This goes against it in some way.

Sounds like "we didn't cause we earn with the release-version, too. And the developer is a personal friend." Funny how some people think they make the rules (so they fit their needs). 20 years+ ago Didi would have been praised for finding a feature like that. The developer is responsible to disable hidden stuff properly. Or did I missed the "poke 1 to $fuck to enable 2 player mode" somewhere? So this is no public knowledge in any case. Stop bashing Didi coz your bitch crossed her legs! Just my 2 cents.

Didi: it is quite obvious that the functionality not available in the one player game is only the two player mode, this is public knowledge and the source of your "hack". There is a right way to do things and a wrong way. You took the wrong path this time.
User Comment
Submitted by Didi on 11 October 2012
I don't know if it is the same functionality because I don't have the real two player version to compare. (Maybe someone having the full version can confirm?) I just took what was there and made it selectable. Not much more than doing a trainer.

Didi: so in uploading your release, you are aware you are making available the same functionality that was not made available previously?

It was my decision to make our version (based on a public available original) available. That doesn't mean to disclose the way to yours (based on the commercial version) which you decided not to link, which I respect. This version would have been here even if yours were public available. I just enabled a hidden featre.

So you make the download link available here on CSDb yet you will not disclose (in public) possible method to get downloads with no download links. Hmmm, now that makes sense.

What Jazzcat, Sixx and Moloch said. And to Heavy S. We all respect your work immensely. The standard behaviour is to not upload cracked new commercial games to the public via f.ex. csdb. As far as I know Ons, G*P, Triad and Armageddon honor that principle, it's nothing unique for one group.

BTW. The Onslaught release is also public availble via a link from this site if you know which link to click. ;)

Submitted by Moloch on 11 October 2012
To be clear, I'm not pissing on Onslaught in the slightest. Anyone that has been part of this wares scene for any real amount of time has sat on games and waited until the release was cleared for a "safe release". This isn't a special skill that only one group possess.

What's wrong with a good old "Mail Version" if you think you can do better than others? It's not for points but to show your abilities. (GP themselves often released 2 versions of a game back then: A fast one for the points and a superior jewel version for the fame to be best.)

I doubt that making a C64 game free available these days really spoils the sales. People who still offer a real bunch of money on C64 games with fancy package, cover art and printed manual are enthusiasts who will buy it anyway, if it's already available as crack or not.
In this special case our source was the publicly available single player version and the two player version would have been available for free in 2 months anyway. Re-enabling the 2 player mode was just to show my abilities. (I also separated the scores for 1 and 2 player because it's different if you play as a team or alone. Don't know how the "real" two player version handles this.)

What Moloch said, we've got that recipe for Billy Mitchell's hot sauce aswell.

As for the release(s): Laxity are being plain rude. This is NOT the way to do it Didi, you just make a fool out of yourself to be honest.

See, me and Jazzcat can agree on things once in a while.

Without turning this into another piss on Onslaught session, I just want to state there is a right way and a wrong way to do things. This release is the wrong way. Same with the Dungeon game also. Just my 2 cents.

@Heavy Stylus - The reality is majority of the groups around now would do the same if you worked with them, there is no special sauce that only Onslaught has access to. ;)

I'm certain there is another reason or two for working with that group, a few hints are here and there on the RGCD website.

"Didi for president!" - wanted to write that for quite a while now. Laxity imho is the best active cracking group these days. Maybe not always from the viewpoint of some "classic ruleset" (first release rules, No-No's with 'commercial releases'), but superb if you just judge by quality. I have nothing else than deep respect and admiration for Laxity!
- peace! spider.

Hmmm. I was asked recently why the majority of developers RGCD/Psytronik work with prefer to have the cracks released via Onslaught. This is why.

Please don't get me wrong - *I'm* not personally pissed about this - the game is going to be available for free in less than two months anyway, and was never planned for sale as a download, but I imagine that some of the people involved in this game may feel a little disheartened by the download being available here so early after the launch of the physical copies of the game via RGCD/Binaryzone.

I understand that the 2 player mode was simply 'disabled' in this build and easy to hack back in (pretty much like that old infamous coverdisk demo of Bubble Bobble), and yes, Georg/Endurion could have removed it - but I guessed that no-one would bother releasing it as a crack. I guessed wrong.

Kudos for adding the hiscore save though - that's something that was missing from the 'official' crack.
