Thanks for the translation! Far too many awesome German-only games are out there

The only bad thing is that the end-screen is shown in the screenshots here. Other than that I haven't played Pole Position for ages which I am going to do now! Thanks for reminding! :)

I really admire ppl who cracking and translating old games from non-English to english but i still wondering how many ppl will play this old game , with not offending anyone else , i really think you are making a great job and appreciate the big efforts (cracking, translating ,fixing , training )and releasing it to public . you are a cracker in your soul . ps. i really don't mind if there are leftover from "Pole Positions" its even funny and historical remark (btw you can't avoid the fact its a super classic game)

Hmh, quite hard to believe those Ariola guys were such big Pole Position fans that they dumped this in their own game code. But as soon as I find my ori disk, I'll check this out. However, Fungus has a point in labeling this a flaw, though that minor(!) flaw (which probably noone would have noticed if LXT guys did not point at it themselves) does not really make it a bad crack imho. It's a great game (if you like those simulations) of which there was no English version before (at least none which survived/can be shown by anyone), so I think this is a crack much more meaningful to non-German C64 scene than trainer versions or mere intro-linked work-in-progress-leeched-from-forums-or-developers-website just to get some statwanking score.

No real reason for drama, though, imho.

Thanks, Ian.

I intended to leave the bytes inside and mention it in the intro, because I find it funny that an original contains parts of another game.

All the other cracks that I checked (Hotline for example) contain the very same stuff. :-)

Yes the competition back then was cool but I hated those 'bare-minimum' intro's... :(

Personally I don't go digging in other peoples cracks

Okay. I LOL-ed :-)

Furthermore, I agree with Fungus.

I miss the competition we had back in the days with who's got the smallest (working! ;-) version.
You won't get it with using a good cruncher but also by putting some effort by cleaning the game up.

Let's not exxagerate things, if they didn't state there were strange strings in memory NOBODY would have noticed anything strange.
Have you even checked? There are very few leftover dirty mem, probably less than a couple of blocks, and you're building already a stake to burn Laxity alive, which have instead provided finally a translated release. Get a grip, bunch of whiners.

@jailbird: Leaving crap in memory shows either A) a lack of skills, B) the cracker just doesn't care (The case here I think), or C) Pure lazyness. That being said... in 2014 there really is no excuse for leaving junk in the memory, it's just bad form... Personally I don't go digging in other peoples cracks because I don't care that much... but quality should be high on the priority list these days. If you are gonna spend the time translating and making a nice version, clean the crap too.

I'm not too familiar with cracking standards, and I'm probably missing sarcasm or an inside joke, but an honest question.

The game was translated (which seems like an extensive task on its own), works fine, the extra data doesn't affects the outcome at all. Why is the release still considered bad and/or ridiculed? A few bytes of redundant junk in the memory is such a huge NO-NO in cracker's world?

This is NO recrack! This "garbage" is already present in the original (as mentioned in our scrolltext). If you own one, go and check yourself.

i'll leave that as an exercise for those who can be arsed. no mention of "original supply" plus garbage in memory is good enough for me =P

Groepaz: Should be quite easy to investigate the other known cracks of the game and find out if it's a recrack, yes?

"there are traces of Pole Position + in memory"

My eyes hurt from the ugly screen dump and the +1, +ED should be enough.

This game was screaming for a translation, so well done. Is the tape version any different?
