The intro is great, and it produces the ideal atmosphere for the game.

When I first saw the game I thought it looked crappy, and if you try to play it alone it is sure to disappoint you, but playing it with more players is huge fun - which I would have never guessed from my first impression! Especially if you get the hang of the guided missiles! Plus it plays VERY different from other tanks kind of games. I like both, but they are not really comparable. I value this game, BECAUSE it (surprisingly) plays unlike any other existing game and is simply great fun on parties.

So please take enough players and some minutes to get into the game, then you're able to judge it!

Pretty disappointing Game... Combat on the Atari 2600 is more fun to play!

It's different experience in 3-4 players, and btw. yes I also didn't like just 8 directions, I wish it was freely rotating game, maybe in future someone makes something like that ;-)

nice intro. but the game was disappointing. Time to search for good old tanks from double density on those dusted cp-verlag Disks. ( Tanks +4F ).

I have to second that, the intro rocks :)

HMVDVA: Can i meet You? Perhaps we can make a part 2 of these nice intro.

CreaMD: an audience of around 700 people for one piece of work is much much more than any average Joe will have in his entire life. Enough to keep me going at least.

I only want to say, that it would be much better for the C64 and PTV if they do much better games or sell the standard games much lower. And i agree with CreaMD !

CreaMD, if you mean freezecracking, just make sure that the program begins loading immediately after start, and make it depend on custom drivecode (on 1541, 1581, etc.) that won't be reinitialized.

Now, of course it's possible to create a freezecrack that will only run on IDE64, fast drive emulation etc. but I think that's too lame to release.

"But to introlinkprotect, mmm, that's another thing :)" - but you know at least one proven way how to avoid it ;-), or did you meanwhile come up with a way how to prevent that and still let the game reliable to run on all configurations?.

As far as the general attitude towards PTV is concerned. Some PPL simply can't respect the work of others. It's easier to say that game is shit and that they are not worth respect, than admit that they are one of the last (if not last) packaged game creators in the scene. It's really funny to repeat that cracking saves the scene without saying why, and without giving out any numbers and statistics of saved sceners ;-). Or is there anything else to count? ;-) Also how many copies do you think Protovision ever sold of e.g. Tanks or their other games? I would be very surprised if it was more than 50 per any of the game. It's not business what keeps those guys doing games, it's their enthusiasm, and believe it or not, all this controversy around them is sucking it out of them. Will bashing PTV save the scene? After all PTV are just people with all their usual life problems, families etc., so let's stop pretending that there is some "big nasty company" with headquarters in the rich centre of a big german city featuring water tanks and coffee automats (and a secretary for each coder... or better 2 of them...). They are bunch of weirdos (as in every other scene group) doing something creative for C64. What makes them more naive than someone who makes webpage about their pics, someone who starts a new magazine in 2006, or someone who makes 5 demos a year for audience of well... about plus/minus 700 ppl? (and that was very optimistic guess) ;-).

hollowman I seriously consider to rename you internally to something around "my personal pain in ass" ;-) But back to topic. I really liked the game and ejoyed it, even when I think that 8 directions movement and shooting in year 2006 is quite crappy. But at least it makes the game fun to play. Btw. I dream about someone making some "retro paddles" combining joystick with paddle and someone making games for them.. that would seriously roxor!

I suggest protection. It was done on Rubicon and until this day no one has cracked it. :)

Check the interview with Snacky about this, imagine if this approach was taken with each new game.

At least protection filters out some people from the crowd.

Considering the variety of C64 storage devices today, it's likely counterproductive & annoying to copyprotect (I guess user convenience should still overrule challenge & sport for crackers, even that this is a scene forum.) And you likely can't be as clever as the masters anyway. But to introlinkprotect, mmm, that's another thing :)

Can't comment on the game...

...but during the 1980s and 1990s, being a scener and writing a game didn't "protect" you from having your games cracked, look at Boys Without Brains, 1001 Crew, Mr. Cursor and the list goes on for a very long time.

groepaz: Regarding the overall code quality of the game and the fact that Cadaver's loader was used, i plainly guess they don't have the ability to come up with a nice copy protection. Otherwise they probably would add one despite the total futileness of such a thing these days. :D

Searching for Protovision should give this result:

"We're terribly sorry. We were unable to find anything for you.
But don't give up! There are 3 possibilities :
You made a typo? Check your spelling.
You were searching in the wrong category?
You know something we don't? Though we strive to be the most complete source of C64 Scene info on the web, we probably do not have info on everyone and everything from around the world (yet!)."

Protovision acts as a company thus it is NOT scene-related!!

When did cracking become bad for the scene? :-)

Seriously, if PTV think they are going to lose customers because cracked versions of their games are available at CSDb then they should get their collective heads checked. All this amounts to is everybody watching in disgust as PTV publically defecates on their brand, acting like some fucked up record company or something who seriously believes that piracy is killing "the industry".

Nowdays should be the gameproducer have some respect for the work of Crackers...they are a in some point part of the Business, and game with no protection is not good for the C64 scene.

Bah, information wants to be free and all that.. But maybe PTV (apart from Metal Dust) should have some respect for its customers, look at the horrid pixeling in the titlepicture with dithering just for the sake of it while totally disregarding that tanks should be made of METAL AND STEEL not some amorphous jelly :)

CreamD: but I didn't mention them at all in my post? my comment was a reaction to the Hema&Troep intro and a thought if the release would get removed by the CSDB administration.

Jazzcat that was reaction on your post, sort it out for yourself. And that part of your post concerning your relationship with PTV. It must be some sort of double-think, or otherwise I can't explain it ;-).

"And btw. Living downunder, without much chances to meet some of those PTV guys in person makes it really easy to "monsterize" them."

thats a funny association...monsters as in "pokemon" kinda :=D

Ok this lame shit is starting again, anyways for downloading it, check out The Digital Dungeon, hosting all the stuff that seems to be banned from CSDB.

I played this game with JTR and Wotnau on wednesday evening (for about hour) and it quite rocked (we played with disabled "guided misiles").

And btw. Living downunder, without much chances to meet some of those PTV guys in person makes it really easy to "monsterize" them. Don't you think Jazz? ;-))

TDJ, oh pleeze! ;-) While having fun, at least admit that both sides are pretending and lying to themselves.

Fortunately we still have pokefinder!

And Cadaver, I take it the Protovision guys PAID you for the use of your loader, right? Them being such professionals and all ..
