Unfortunately the production-note links no longer work.

Mirage, serious question: wouldn't it benefit graphicians to include all workstages and sketches with a release by default? After seeing your traditional sketches, it should be obvious to everyone that you can draw. Secondly, even if you did wire your original sketch, the resulting pic still shows skill with pixelling. So if we expose our design processes, people who know about such things can evaluate our work properly. Not everyone would care one way or another, of course... but for important works like this one, it seems almost necessary. Even though not it's not being entered into a compo.

Great pic, in any case. :)

Yes, Lars will remain my all-time favourite graphics artist till the end of time. I can't emphasize enough his influence on me when I started with pixelling, and he still manages to shock me - I love you sooo fucking much! \:D\ /:D/ \:D\ /:D/ \:D/

Well! The pencil sketch+scan method was advised by Poison to me already ;_) maybe I should consider it too! Look Mirage, I don't want to dispute with you or accuse you in any way... I just write my opinion... I usually set out from what I see! If your graphics at first impression seem unbelievable to be made by human hand in pixel 2 pixel technology, then don't wonder! You should be glad to see such calls from outside, this means you produce such quality that is almost unbelievable! It's better if 20 people question your technique, than nobody notices your work for 3 weeks... Thanks for showing the sketch, it was salutary! ;_) Let's just say, it was convincing!

hehe, nice sketches.. :) Maybe Leon ought to do some, before he starts pixeling for a while, eh.

wow, I would _love_ to see that rough-made-up-of-straight-lines style straight in the fli picture ! ;)

Last time i'm going to humour you all with workstages or sketches, i've had enough

as for me, i'd love to see more of these. ACE. thumbs up!

Leon, i can understand why of all people _you_ would think that... You've got the weirdest, unnatural workstages i've ever seen, yet i don't go around accusing you of anything

Now, if you can draw something like this, convert it and make it look like it's pixeled you may reply again:

yeah, if you all spent your energy on making demos and games rather than bitching, then maybe we'd have an active and interesting scene again.
it's not like there's a shortage of talent, and at the end of the day, you can still be creative on c64 with new effects and gfx and music! it just seems like no-one wants to commit to making stuff, just leftovers from old work-disks. sorry, i've become a bitch too, it has rubbed off on me..... ;)

Well said, TDJ (damn, need to find that contract again, badly!)

This was the last picture in this series anyway... i've said what i wanted to say, so now it's time to move on (woah, a demo, what a novel idea)

There's been too damn many outrun title screens by sceners already, I remember my old team-mate Artefact had his published in C+VG way back (looked better than the original one too).

Now, why not let Lars decide for himself what to draw instead of seeing him as some kind of graphical jukebox, hmm? ;) Plus, aren't you guys supposed to be graphicians yourselves? I vaguely remember some work by you ;)

If there's one person who has the right to make suggestions it's me. It's even in his contract goddammit!!

@Morpheus and others:

I have found it, it & it

@Mirage: I guess it's either that or just walk through them. It wouldn't make a great game though. :)

I'd also like to see a new Outrun pic. The old Outrun pic by The Sarge (JOL) made was used in a Swedish mag to promote the upcoming arcade conversion of the game. Guess if that made him happy. Or what about a Battlefield 1942 screen? Or a Pinball Fantasies screen which the guys who made the C64 version could use. When I think about it, there might already be one. Ramblings, ramblings...

I second Ninja, and HCL :)

D.C. Ward would have gotten a hard on by that instead of the lame loading screen on Ocean's Donkey Kong tape

I second HCL. Seeing pics like this in a demo would be a nice dream, but even a simple GFX-collie with a small scroller attached somewhere would add really some sweetness. Then again, how many collies have been lost, cause the code was never finished :(
Oh, my comment: Superb picture!

What if there still was a games market on the C64. What a lovely title screen this would be! My only concern is how that fat Mario is gonna be able to jump over all the barrels Donkey Kong is throwing at him.

Sweet Bejaizes, what a frequency of production!

This is obviously top notch, and the standard of Mirage's picture can currently only be compared to Mirage's own work.

Compared to the two previous pics in the series I have a couple of issues with this one - if I may be so bold. For one, the white outline is a bit too dirty in terms of pixelling for my taste. It looks like the result of a quick cropping job. Secondly, The grey area to the right of the dude is so bright that it brings the picture a tad bit out of balance. That said, I think the face itself is brilliant handywork. I especially like the stylized lines of shadow that defines the chin. No point in stopping now, Mirage! Keep'em coming! And again, I'd love to see some stages! ;)

Call me old fashioned, but i can't help from thinking that this is a waste of talent. A Stand-alone picture is just hardly a c64-release in my eyes, why not make just *anything* out of it?

Duh! Ok, sorry it's Monday. Just can't think of anything positive to say, despite the brilliance of this picture :/.

Very very najs again, but not quite as good as the Ms Pacman one. I'd "only" give it a 10+! ;-)
The face is very very good, and this time the Arcade-background is awesome aswell. I just don't like the white line around Mario (looks a bit crudely pixelled) and his moustachev (too flat)!

Yes, it rocks! What irritates me a little bit is only the gray area right to Mario.

Mirage's drawings are rolling through the dirty sewer passages of the rotting C64 scene as a bulder in Indiana Jones not leaving space to survive for anyone else. ;-)

Ok now let me say it with less pathos ;-) I think this is another excellent example of the most mature style of drawing and composition in today's C64 scene.
