The earliest song using the THCM 8-Bit Digi driver but its still one of the best tunes using the THCM 8-Bit Digi driver! So fucking good!

Pushing the c64's limits, doing impossible things with it, was always part of the fascination. And making the c64 sound like an Amiga with a nice italo disco summer flair is just awesome.

Wow, it took me six years to appreciate the tune for what it is. I hated those ugly ST-00 sounds and wasn't too fond of the rather simple composition either.

Anyways, the main melody is catchy as can be and I think even the sounds fit pretty darn well.

Finally, here's your 9/10 :D

.oO(How times change ...)

Wouldn't it be possible to do a Softsynth then on the C64 where you can create a sound which is rendered as a sample and then play this sample at different notes :)

I guess many people dislike any kind of digis. However, I do not belong to those disqualifying anything contaning samples :-) Especially not at such a true killer in both, technical and executive. My personal winner.

Now that Vice 2.1 is out, make sure to select reSID floating point (FP) emulation and one of the SID models with fp signature to hear this new invention properly.

Reminds me of some early 90's amiga mod by virgil or the likes. Technically top notch. Still, not my thing.

right, this is sid/coder-porn, and you did succeed at that. congrats for filtering samples and making it seems as if you sneaked a mod into the compo.
then again, without the filtering, this one was somehwat non-fanta-ish and beyond what i usually prefer and know from you on c64. musicially, you can do better, lots of better even, make that 400% better than this one. you could have beaten anyone out of their boots with a usual fanta-tune, i'm assured of that. and you know that as well. :)

Holy crap, filtered samples...!
On my C64...!

I think Fanta has composed much better tunes than this, though it was interesting to hear the new sample playback technique in action.

Quoting Mixer

My understading is that this one is supposedly amigaish to prove that c-64 and sid is superior to amiga :)

I am looking forward to all future stuff that will use synthesized digisound, wavetables and original samples. There is so much that can be done in this fashion.

Actually there's only one small criticism thingy for this tune - samples ^^

I mean, though great, I woudl personally avoid to use Amiga'ish '90 samples. But! I knew if Fanta used them, he wanted them there. =)

Difficult question. This really sounds like an AMIGA Mod and no doubt, great stuff, but it has its trade-offs: I don't like the melody too much, that's why I personally saw JT ahead and still do now. De gustibus non est disputandum.

Amazing tune... Somehow the arpeggio in the beginning reminds me of something that Laxity ones did... Just can't remember what... Very popish stuff ;)

oh my god, this tune kicks JT's effort to the curb in every way possible. What the hell were the voters thinking?

Nice tune, really fantastic sounds. JT is a C64 legend and he did some fantastic SID music, but it seems he won this compo on past glories.

I'm really sorry for not joining X-compos this year because I would be glad to shake Fanta's hand being beaten by this interesting tune. (I've promised him that I'll kick his butt in X-compo, unfortunatelly I will have to do it next time ;-) Should have won over JT's one. Although JT maybe deserves a honrable first place for just returning back to scene compos with new tune ;-), we can't blame him for being so easily recognisable ;-). As for the Fanta's tune itself. It's a nice proof of concept demonstration but I don't fall from chair hearing just that. Playing with filter sounds just inspirative and promising, but with some different samples it could cause even more massive demolition ;-) let's hope we'll have chance to hear one or two more of this kind in future ;-).

@Jammer I wrote my own custom player for the 4 voice 8 bit digi part and we used Goattracker for the first two sid voices. Everything was composed using Open ModPlug Tracker and converted with my Protracker Converter.

Hi Alex

Great composition. Congratulations of being the first who used SD's and THCM's codes, and you actually managed to not fuck it up! ^.^

not a perfection as a tune, but something that our grandkids should definitely remember. filtered samples really draw ma jaw down. what player? :P

AMIIIGAA!!! I loved this in the compo, I wasn't too surprised to find out afterwards it's by Fanta! ;-D

This is the perfect compliment to the new standard in what's possible in c64 gfx, which some people might have seen at my table! ;-D Yup, there's a new gfxmode in town, MUIFLI is here, delivering awesome details and extremely smooth colors while hardly flickering at all! WE NEED TCH! 8)

So Fanta/Soundemon raised the bar in c64 sound, we raised in in c64 gfx (unfortunately no release, since I won't participate in the compo with just some converted picture, no matter how nice it looks! <:-) and Booze raised it in Demomaking. So X sounded the beginning of a new era in all 3 areas, great! ;-D

Sorry, but this sounds too much like a sampled amiga mod to me.

Too much digis, too little sid.

Drax, Randall, Jammer .. they all had much stronger entries in the compo.

People were blinded by the digi effect show.

Sorry Fanta, nothing personal.

good sid tune, impressive sample player, but sounds shit = fail!

please use the sid in the best sounding way. technique and perfection cannot impress me, if the feelings are lacking or the samples destroy the midtones.

That said; i also wanna say that Fantas tune in the oxyron demo is pure orgasm for me! and thats what i like!

forget the technique - there's a great composition lurking behind it. i'm sure it was intentional that alex was wearing a kraftwerk t-shirt.

Sounds correct in vice 2.05 (sources from Sourceforge) setting reSID-fp and any alankila patch.
Making a .sid file from this is hard, without some recode, no space left for the sidplay routines in memory.

Hehe.. damn.. I was also planning to do a player precisely like this, built on SounDemoN's 8bit-sample playing idea, but... congratulations to Fanta for beating me to it! ...and for doing a nice tune with it too! :)

i agree,it blows away anything else, this is the way the Sid music should follow, fantastic.

btw,it sounds broken in Resid(Vice,Sidplay2),Hoxs64 using the resample sounds the same as the C64 recording.

Fanta just raised the bar of what is possible on a plain 64 by MILES! (Edit, actually Soundemon and THCM are the fathers of the technology behind it)
Technically amazing (4 channel digis mixed at 8 bits with 2 sidvoices, digis and sidvoices can be filtered!) but also musically a very strong and energetic piece of music. Without wanting to start the old discussion again - but this tune should have won the music compo. 11/10!
