This is persistently one of my fave C64 pics and the only C64 pic ever I had as a desktop background (scaled to proper aspect ratio) for quite a while.

Aha, i already wondered where the original was from J.D. Sachs' Amiga Illustration! ;-)
Great pic, really well pixelled!.. But oh, teh NTSC-squeeze!...

I know Saehn has a boatload of pics from J.D. Sachs and Wayne Schmidt that are not on CSDb, come on, add them! 8)

this guy must've been a professional illustrator before going into c64 ;)

Brilliant pic and a great find. What I find most fascinating isn't the areas he left out, but the very intentional and subtle ditherered colormixing (grey+orange, grey+red). Add those colorgleams in the hair and you have something truly brilliant for its time.

@Frantic: Well, the Amiga pic was drawn by J.D. Sachs. Sachs - the guy that created Serene Screen Aquarium on the PC! :)

@Motion: And while we're at it, that's a pretty damn nice pixelled C64 in that Amiga picture you posted a link to. :)

Wow - amazing! Great find, Motion :)
Very impressive, he seems to be in full control - as detailed as pixels get. Very fond of the 'untouched' area on the face - not overdone dithering as we all know too well :)

@Groepaz: Well, that's the divide between NTSC and European scene for you! ;)

This is image is quite special to me. I first saw it embedded into an image on the Amiga, drawn by James D. Sachs. The image was of a Commodore 64 and 1541 Diskdrive and the text 'C-64 Graphics Contest Winners!'. The image of 'Serene' was on the 1084s (or a 1702?) monitor. Link below:

It had bugged me ever since! I did some research recently to source some old images from the NTSC scene and stumbled upon GEnie (General Electric Network for Information Exchange) Archive. there were multiple files in odd formats. Thankfully I found the Auto-graph displayer tool, which permitted me to view these newly discovered gems! ...I'm very content now. :)

I'll be uploading more of Wayne Schmidt's work to CSDb very soon!
